The Baap of bogus blockbusters-KANK

So i finally got to watch the much talked about KANK. Now i have never been a big fan of the Karan Johar brand of movies but i too had fallen a victim to media hype and in my mind developed an imge of what i expected from the film. The story revolves around two married couples unhappy on various accounts, but primarily on account of their temperamental differences that force the two characters to search for and finally find love outside the domain of marriage. A lot of my friends who had seen the film before me had liked it. But though I kinda agree with the underlying philosophy of the film which says that two good friends donot always make the best match. it is equally important to have passion and unconditional love( Beintehaan mohabbat as they call it) for the relationship to succeed. It demands love of an overpowering kind, one that allows each person to embrace the shorcomings of the other rather than overlook them and in this way fill both their lives with happiness. This I do agree with, but what is rather difficult to understand is why our bollywood directors need 3 hours to convey a message??
Why do movies have to be made this long? In that sense the film was a big disappointment. It was just not enough to keep you in your seats for full 3 hours. On the contrary, it kept you waiting for the intermission.

What I liked about the film was the outstanding performnce by Abhishek Bachchan in the role of Rishi, the loverboy husband. Even miss Zinta rose above her usual 'bubbly' self to bring all that grace and maturity that the character of Rhea saran, the editor of a coveted fashion magazine demanded. But the senior Bachchan as 'Sexy Sam' trying to get cozy with semi-clad Newyorkers was a total misfit. If there was anything else that created an impression it was the songs. On the whole i would rate it an average movie. And would rather see Karan Johar leave such controversial subjects to those that tackle them best and go back to making his Blockbuster masala movies with lavish sets in exotic locations, with humour thrown in here and there which is what makes his films interesting to watch. And ya, cut down on hte guest appearances please coz if guests appear in such abundance, then they seem to lose their surprise value, what say?

My only fear was whether i'll b able to devote as much time to this space as i'd like to.... Nevertheless, i fianally decided to leave behind all doubts and inhibitions and embark on this new journey where i open my pure, unadulterated, uncensored views to the world!!!
